Meet the SCMEA Board
President: Paul Herrera [email protected]
Paul Herrera has been the music director at Joseph A. Gregori HS in Modesto, CA since 2016. Since taking over the program he has taken his band and color guard to perform the half-time shows of Fresno State, SJSU, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Davis, and a UOP Basketball game. In 2018, his students performed a “second-line” performance down Bourbon Street to kick-off the 2018 French Quarter Jazz Festival in New Orleans and returned in 2023. In 2019: his students performed at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. In 2022, his choir went on a SoCal tour to the USC Choral Leadership Academy. In 2023 his orchestra did a SoCal tour and participated in a Disneyland Recording Session while members of his band performed at the US Capitol Fourth of July Parade in Washington DC. Mr. Herrera completed his MA in Conducting from San Jose State University with Dr. Edward Harris and was the recipient of the “Brent and Barbara Heisinger Outstanding Graduate Music Major Award” in 2016. He holds a BA in Music Education from Fresno State in 2010 and in 2006 was the Bulldog Marching Band “Rookie of the Year.” In 2013 was selected as American Union Elementary School’s “Teacher of the Year.” Paul has been an active member of California Band Directors Association and the California Alliance for Jazz serving as a Stage Crew member, Ensemble Manager, Lead Chaperone, Site Host, and Logistics Coordinator for the California All-State Music Education Conference from 2007-2023. He is currently serving as President of the Stanislaus County Music Educators Association.

Adam Serpa is the Choir Director at Modesto High School. Mr. Serpa has a Master’s in Music Education from San Jose State University and a Bachelor’s in Music from California State University Stanislaus. He has been teaching choir and a variety of other music classes for over 11 years in Central California and the Bay Area. He is an active member of the California Choral Director’s Association and regularly serves as a choir manager for Central Regional and All-State Honor Choirs.

Treasurer: Rogelio Garibay [email protected]
Rogelio Garibay is the Director of Instrumental Music at James C. Enochs High School in Modesto, CA. Rogelio Garibay received his Bachelor of Music (Education and Performance) from CSU Stanislaus in 2012. As a performer at CSU Stanislaus, Rogelio was a member of the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Tuba Quartet. During the Summer months he served as lead counselor for Summer Music at Stanislaus and camp counselor at Hayward La Honda Summer Music Camp. Rogelio also served as Assistant Conductor for the Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra’s Wind Ensemble (2012-2013).
Before his appointment at James C. Enochs High School, he was the Band Director at Pacheco high School in Los Banos, CA. He also spent time at various elementary schools teaching instrumental music to 5th and 6th graders. During his five years at Pacheco High School, Rogelio led the jazz band, concert band, symphonic band, pep band, and marching band. Rogelio likes to involve himself in local and music performing arts advocacy groups, Stanislaus County Music Educator's Association (Treasurer) and the Central California Youth Wind Ensemble (Vice Chair) to ensure that young musicians and performers have a place in which they can sharpen their skills and share their talents with a wider audience. He hopes to continue to create a safe and inclusive setting in which his students feel comfortable to learn about music and the performing arts while empowering them to sculpt their own futures.
